The opportunity

As one of the world's leading grains research organisations, the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) plays an integral role in driving research outcomes and innovation that directly benefit Australia's grain industry. The GRDC's purpose is to invest in research, development and extension (RD&E) to create enduring profitability for Australian grain growers.

Kowalski Recruitment (KR) is looking for an outstanding candidate to contribute to creating enduring profitability for Australian grain growers through the management and coordination of one of GRDC’s largest and most visible RD&E initiatives the National Variety Trial (NVT) program. NVT is a national program of comparative crop variety testing with standardised trial management, data generation, collection and dissemination.

We require a person to:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of NVT focussed RD&E strategies;
  • Take responsibility for the provision of robust crop variety performance information to growers, through oversight of the relevant NVT trial networks and variety specific agronomy RD&E activities in the western region;
  • Assess the quality of regional/local NVT information through the use of NVT protocols, completing field audits and agreed data publication frameworks;
  • Identify publication opportunities and collaborating with the Grower Communications Group to communicate NVT and GRDC Research outcomes more broadly;
  • Contribute to the broader National Program business group objectives and other relevant cross-functional teams to help ensure that NVT data resources are fully exploited in light of the latest Big-data analytical tools and technology;
  • Take responsibility for the localised extension and communication of NVT results through traditional and/or newly identified channels;
  • Contribute to the broader NVT team objectives to deliver key in-house activities including NVT database development and usage, website and App administration, specific analysis of NVT/GRDC datasets, the implementation of required market research and reporting requirements;
  • Undertake other duties relative to Technical advice, Leadership, Financial Management and IP Analysis.

About You:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated minimum 5+ years of related industry experience in a relevant field (i.e. crop research, plant breeding or agronomy).
  • Experience in contract or project negotiation, facilitation and management in a relevant industry (5+ years’ desirable).
  • A degree in Business, Agricultural Science, or equivalent.
  • Experience in negotiating and facilitating outcomes that deliver benefits to growers.
  • Exposure to commercial issues and demonstrated commercial acumen.
  • Highly developed presentation, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously as well as flexibly and adaptively in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and reprioritise as required.
  • Proven experience in change management and continuous improvement of field trial operations including quality control and overall efficiency.
  • The ability synthesise information and provide a summary and recommended options.

You must be prepared to travel interstate when required, hold a valid Australian Driver’s License and be an Australian Citizen.
